Re-constituted leather, genuine leather, real leather and a number of other terms are used to describe items made from leather.   Unfortunately, they don’t inform you as to the grade or amount of leather used in the manufacture of the item.   “Solid Hide” generally means the item is made from a solid piece of natural leather.

Even saddlers and other leather workers are confused with the amount of different leathers available and I apologise if I have made any errors in the writing of this article.   One thing I am sure of is that only the best hides go into producing premium veg tanned saddlery leathers.
